Beat the Heat Church schedule

Beat the heat at SHBC!

Tomorrow there will be refreshing water for all in attendance.  We are trying to keep our services outside as much as possible due to the new mandates to wear mask indoors. We are upgrading our shade areas and will be installing mister cooling stations around the church.

Gov. Newsom has mandated that any indoor public venue is required to have mandatory wearing of face masks.External link opens in new tab or windowhttps://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/CDPH%20Document%20Library/COVID-19/Guidance-for-Face-Coverings_06-18-2020.pdf

SHBC has also purchased the allowed face coverings for those that can not, or do not wish to wear masks.  These full face mask will be available upon request.

We will also attempt to have our services outdoors as weather permits.  Please see the schedule below to plan your service opportunities.

In order to comply with this and continue having in-person church services SHBC will be modifying our services.  Our schedule is different, but the opportunity to worship and serve the Lord is still the same.

A Service: 8:00 a.m.

Those that are more susceptible to Covid-19 are urged to attend this service (no children classes are available during this service). This service will be outside, thus face masks are not mandatory.  All attendees must wash hands, take temperature prior to service, and follow social distancing guidelines.

Sunday School /Bible Study: 9:15 a.m.

Each class will be spaced out and all social distancing guidelines will be observed

B Service: 10:15 a.m.

Those with children are encouraged to attend this service.  This service is the same as the A service. Classes will be spaced out and all social distancing guidelines will be observed.  As the temperature will be warm, I am anticipating having the service indoors.  Face masks will be required.  If you do not have one, one will be available for you.  Please keep in mind that this is a new mandate that is somewhat controversial.  If you do not wish to wear a mask, please attend the 8:00 am service.  Thank you, in advance, for your understanding.

Sunday night services: 5:00 p.m.

We will have our Pastor Chat and Bible study virtual and in-person.  Our Lord’s Supper service will be the first Sunday of each month following the 5:00 pm service.  This will be a self serve table, but the emphasis of the remembrance of Christ is the same.  If the service is indoors then, due to new mandates from Gov. Newsom, face masks must be worn.

Wednesday Night service: 7:00 p.m.

Classes will be spaced out and all social distancing guidelines will be observed. If the service is indoors then, due to new mandates from Gov. Newsom, face masks must be worn.

Services will be held outside if the temperature is below 85 F and inside when  85 F or above.  For outside services, shade and chairs are provided.  You may also choose to bring your own chair and shade if you like.

All services are still being streamed through our Facebook media, “Sierra Hills Baptist Media Page”.

Here are some other guidelines each participant should consider:

· Prior to entering the service please visit our hand wash /Temperature read station.  Each attendee must have their temperature taken prior to being a part of the service.  Thank you in advance for cooperating with us as we follow the CDC/CA guidelines.

· Face Masks or face shields are required during services that are held indoors.

· Washing hands is recommended by the CDC/CA health officials

· The California state health department has asked us to consider not having our song service.

External link opens in new tab or windowhttps://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-places-of-worship.pdf

After much prayer and consideration SHBC considers singing an essential part of our services and will have congregational singing.  If you are concerned about the singing you may enter the service once the song service is over.

· Bathrooms are sanitized prior to the services.  Use of bathrooms should be  minimized, if possible, for sanitation reasons.

· Song books and Bibles have been sanitized and may be picked up on the back table of the auditorium.  If you use a Bible or song book please leave it in the row to be collected and sanitized after each service.

Our Sunday Service Will be very special.  We will be hosting an outside opportunity to listen to the message and experience the special connection with God that only the church can bring.  We will be having our virtual Sunday Morning Bible study at 8:45 am and the live outside service at 10:00 am.  I hope you will be a part of this great opportunity to worship God.

We are mindful of the needs of our church family and your health and safety is one of the highest priorities.  Please note all the policies to keep the covid-19 virus from spreading

Here are some things that are the same as before the Covid-19:

  • Same joyful spirit.

  • Same opportunity to sing and praise the Lord. (please allow for extra spacing as we sing and worship.)

  • Same opportunity to hear the word of God preached.

  • Same chance to SEE those we love, care about, and pray for.

Here are some other things we should not do.  It is for the health and wellness of our congregation and our community that we follow these guidelines for a time.  It is also a way to honor our Government as directed in the Word of God.

  • Those that are more susceptible to contracting the coronavirus are advised to consider staying home.  All services will be posted on our Facebook page.

  • Please follow the existing established CDC guidelines on social distancing.

  • Please stay home if you are running a fever or you feel you could be contagious to others.

  • An Offering Box will be provided outside. Please place  your offerings in the box. When giving please keep social distancing and respect the spacing of others.   There will be an assistant to help you if need be.  I would encourage you to use the online giving platform at External link opens in new tab or windowsierrahillsbaptist.org/giving.html

  • The Church facilities will be closed for this service.  Bathrooms are for emergency use only.  Before coming to church please use the restroom.  The fellowship hall will also be closed so bring your own coffee, tea, and snacks.

I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord in this way.  I pray that this service will be an exciting and impactful way to worship the Lord.

If you have any questions please contact Pastor Wass at 559-760-2231 or [email protected]

What a great time to serve the Lord.  This Sunday we will host another drive-in service at 10:00 a.m. in the morning.  I look forward to seeing all your faces and enjoy the fellowship and the time we can spend, “Social Distancing” together.

Because of the earlier service I have moved the morning Bible Study to 8:45 am.  It will end promptly at 9:30 so all may make the service in time.  For those planning on attending the drive-in service, I suggest you ready your self prior to the Bible Study so you may leave directly after the study is over.  Please take a look at the parking guide as it will be different then "Normal Parking".

We also have a great 6:00 pm “Pastor’s Chat and Bible Study on Sunday nights.  Please make it a point to join us for a time of virtual fellowship and a question-answer study in Psalms 1.

Both Bible studies are an interactive study through Zoom (a video conferencing program.)  it is easy and fun. If you would like to receive an invitation to these studies e then email or text me a request.  I will send you an invitation.

Thank you all for your faithful service and generous giving to Sierra Hills Baptist Church.  I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Here are some things that are the same as before the Covid-19:

  • Same joyful spirit.

  • Same opportunity to sing and praise the Lord.

  • Same opportunity to hear the word of God preached.

  • Same chance to SEE those we love, care about, and pray for.

Because of the restrictions there are some other things we can not do.  It is for the health and wellness of our congregation and our community that we follow these guidelines for a time.  It is also a way to honor our Government as directed in the Word of God.

Here are some things that we CAN NOT do as “normal”.  Please work with SHBC in these areas so we can have a wonderful day.

  • Those that are more susceptible to contracting the coronavirus are advised to consider staying home.  All services will be posted on our Facebook page.

  • Please follow the existing established CDC guidelines on social distancing.

  • Please stay home if you are running a fever or you feel you could be contageous to others

  • An Offering Box will be provided on a drive-thru basis at the close of the service.  There will be an assistant to help you if need be.  I would encourage you to use the online giving platform at External link opens in new tab or windowwww.sierrahillsbaptist.org if possible to keep the congestion down.

What is SHBC doing this Week!

4-25-20

Wow, has it been a crazy month!  I can say that I have had the opportunity to grow in the Lord through the “Shelter in Home” experience.  I Have gotten closer to my Lord with an increase in my prayers and Bible.  I also have been able to enjoy being with my kids and family, which is always a blessing.

There is one thing that is missing...fellowship with my church family!.  I hope that you will prepare your heart for the day when we get to gather in person together.  Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder and I am sure that the moment we can come together there will be great joy.

Until that day, let me encourage you to be as connected as possible with Sierra Hills Baptist Church.  For Sunday, 4-26-20 we will have several opportunities for you to be a part of SHBC.

  • Join us at 9:00 am for a virtual interactive Bible study.  This “Zoom” meeting is by invitation.  If you have not received your invitation please email me.  I will send you an email invitation so you may join our class.

  • A Song serve will be posted at around 10:50 am. on Sunday.  This service will have several songs that you may sing along with.  I hope that you will be a part of this service and sing to the Lord.

  • Sunday Morning Worship will be offered at 11:00 am on Sunday.  I hope to encourage you with the word of God as we look at those in the Bible that have overcome difficulties. This Sunday will be, “Overcoming Flaws and  Failures In Life”.

  • At 6:00 pm Sunday evening there will be another interactive service on “Zoom”.  This will be a chat time with Pastor and a short devotion.  Again, this is an invitation meeting.  If you do not get an invitation form the Church, email me and one will be sent to you.

  • Tuesdays and Fridays there are devotionals, posted at External link opens in new tab or windowwww.sierrahillsbaptist.org,  that are posted to encourage and develop the reader.  Make sure you visit the Media tab and click on devotional.

  • We have opportunities to worship the Lord in our giving.  Both your tithe and mission giving are greatly needed.  Let us worship the Lord by giving to Him.  You can use our online giving (found on our website), mail the tithe in, or drop your tithe off in our parking lot drop box between 10:00 - 11:00 am on Sunday Mornings.

As always, Let me say thank you for your faithful support of SHBC.  May God richly bless you as you live by faith in Him.

Yours

Pastor Steven J. Wass

4-22-20

Recently I had a meeting with over 70 pastors and lawyers on the matter of the church and the need to prepare for when we reopen.  We all were seeking Godly counsel from Godly men.

In the meeting Dr. David Gibbs form the Christian Law Association, warned us that as churches, we must be prepared to conduct ourselves with the utmost care.  He described people ready to start litigation on any church that does not follow the practices of the CDC.

Here some things that we can look forward to.

  • Being able to gather as a church and have the physical connection that we long for in a church setting.

  • Being able to serve the Lord in teaching and outreach again.

  • Being able to sing and worship corporately. (I miss the song service and singing with others.)

  • Opportunities for new ministries in the audio/video department.

  • Opportunities for special sing groups and a spread out choir performances.

Here are some things that we can expect to see that are different..

  • You will notice signage that will remind us of social distancing policies.

    • No handshaking

    • No hugging

    • Social spacing between families

    • Keeping children in central areas close to their core family units.

  • Stricter sanitation policies of auditorium, common areas, and bathrooms.

  • Abbreviated services.

  • Advisement that if you are sick to stay home

  • New Nursery standards and temp checks of those that enter the nursery.

As we see these changes let us be wise to heed the counsel of those Godly men that have given their time to help us navigate the uncharted waters of this new day.

Let us look to the future and desire to make sure our decisions are bathed in prayer and Godly counsel as we set our course in the days to come.

Opportunities for Easter Celebration

4-7-20

We have some wonderful opportunities as we come up to the day we celebrate the Resurrection of our Saviour.

First, let me say that we will not be able to have services in person for this Easter Sunday.  It breaks my heart, but it is something that I have prayed about. Right now, with the situation with the virus still spreading, I do not want to see any of our dear members and friends infected and possibly harmed. I recently read a statistic about a church in a large metropolitan area that was responsible for 1/3rd of the cases in that city.  It is my desire to be a testimony of Christ so that when this is over we will be able to reach out and draw people to Him.

So, what can we do?  I want each of us to determine to make this Easter special and reserved unto God.  Here is how:

  1. Don’t miss our Wednesday Night Bible study and children’s class.  Each will be posted on the Facebook page “Sierra Hills Baptist Church Media” at 7:00 p.m.  Make sure you are a part of these special opportunities to grow and learn.

  2. This Friday at 6:00 p.m. we will have a virtual Facebook video for the Lord’s Supper service.  This service is for any Member of Sierra Hills Baptist Church. This is a closed group, accessed by invitation.  If you do not feel that you are a part of the group please contact me to discuss getting you on the list. You will need to have the basic elements at your own home prior to the service.  You do not need a special cup or plate, but an attitude of reverence for the service is something that should be present.  Make it as if the Lord, Jesus Christ, was going to be your honored guest for dinner. Friday the 10th, at 6:00 p.m. go to the Facebook page “Sierra Hills Baptist Church Media Page.”   We will start with a song and then continue with the Lord’s Supper.

  3. At Sunrise, on Sunday Morning, I want to encourage everyone to greet the sunrise, look to the heavens, and thank God for His triumph over the grave!  Maybe post a pic or a video on Facebook or Instagram as you celebrate this wondrous event.

  4. Sunday at 9:00 a.m. we are having a praise and testimony time with a devotion to follow.  This will be done through the interactive video conferencing format called Zoom. If you would like to be a part of this, please request an invitation and I will send you one.  When you get the email just click on the invitation URL and join the meeting. Make sure you have a camera and a microphone that is turned on. Smartphones and most laptops will work nicely.

  5. There is a special Easter offering being held on Sunday between 10:00-11:00 a.m.  The offering box will be outside where you will be able to give without having to enter the building.  For every person that participates in the drive-in offering you will receive a special gift to celebrate our Saviour’s victorious resurrection!

  6. There will be a special Easter Message posting on Facebook at "Sierra Baptist Church Media Page"  make sure you hear this message of hope and victory!

As we come into this week I want to ask that we continue to pray for one another and for our local, state, and federal leaders.

Be in prayer for our missionaries in foreign lands. Their needs are greater now more than ever.

I miss you all. I look forward to the day when the Lord will bring us back together in person.

4-4-2020

Hello Members and friends of Sierra Hills Baptist Church,

All services for this week will be on-line.  It is a difficult for all of us to not be able to assemble together in person.  I do believe it is the wisest choice for the safety of our members and friends of SHBC, as well as the community at large.

I am going to be hosting our second lesson in the study, "Real Church" tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m..  If you would like to be a part of this interactive study then please respond to me no later than tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. so I can send you a link to the zoom meeting.  You do need a good internet connection in order to be able to participate.

I hope you will be a part of this great opportunity to learn and grow.  Even if we are not able to be physically at the church building we can all still meet as a church in this way.

Also look for the Sunday Morning message on Facebook at 11:00 tomorrow.  you can find it on Facebook  at "sierra hills baptist church media".

As always, please be safe and call me if you have any needs or questions.

Since the Coronavirus Pandemic started, each week I have been praying and reviewing in what manner we are to conduct our services.  Last week I arranged to have 4 services, each with under 10 in the service. I did this based on the restrictions that were given at the time. Based on new limitations we will have our services online. This week Fresno county has clarified the restrictions as follows:

(edited for space: bolded for emphasis)

Businesses that WILL NOT remain open:...

  • Bowling alley

  • Car washes

  • Casinos and cardrooms

  • Churches (counseling, providing relief, and broadcasting religious services permitted - but no congregations of people)

  • Clothing stores

External link opens in new tab or windowhttps://abc30.com/6045779

Because of the above restrictions, I am not having live services.  It is my wish that we follow the direction of the local, state, and federal authorities as long as it does not go against the Word of God.

1 Timothy Chapter 2

1 External link opens in new tab or windowI exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 External link opens in new tab or windowFor kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Instead of a physical service, I will be doing a

virtual service

via our "Sierra Hills Baptist Church Media" site on Facebook.  I will start the service at 11:00 am on Sunday.

For those “Zoom” users I will have a Sunday school class at 9:30 am on Sunday.  If you are interested in this class please email me so I can send you an email invitation.  All you have to do is click on the email invitation I send you, download the Zoom program if needed, and wait.  You will need video and audio capability on your media device.

Also, I will be posting a video at, “Sierra Hills Baptist Church Media” on Facebook, that will show you how to give using our online portal.  Please watch the video and give as God has prospered you this week. You may also mail your tithe in through the US Postal Service or, on Sunday between 11:00 and 12:30, I will have the offering box available for you to drive up and give. Thank you for being faithful in your tithes and offerings.

Thank you and God Bless

Pastor Steven J. Wass

Good evening,

3-24-20

Today I have worked on a possible video platform called Zoom. By using this platform we can have many of our church members log in and be a part of an interactive video lesson.  It will allow you to attend a video Bible study where you can hear a message but also be able to ask questions and interact much like being in an actual class.

If you are interested in a weekly Bible study please text me or email me.

This Bible study will start in the coming days.  I look forward to see you at the Bible study.

I am planning on establishing 4 events later this week for our Sunday service.  If the circumstances stay the same, I will post the event on Thursday. Like last week, follow these steps:

  • Go to Facebook Sierra Hills Baptist Church

  • Push the event tab

  • Select the time for you and your family.

  • Push "going" or "reserve"

  • See you Sunday!

Remember, each service will be limited to 10 and the auditorium will be refreshed and sanitized following each service.

Pastor Wass

Once again, Hello from Pastor Wass, 3-20-2020

There are several things that I would like to let the members and friends of Sierra Hills Baptist Church know about.

  1. First I want to encourage each of you to pray for one another.  If you would like to be a part of our Facebook messenger prayer chain please contact me and we will get you connected.  You can always phone or text me at 559-760-2231 or email me at External link opens in new tab or window[email protected].  I also started a new prayer request email account that you can send the church personal prayer needs to.  The email site is External link opens in new tab or window[email protected].  I will be checking it each morning and will try to respond to each prayer need with a word of encouragement

  1. Many have asked about this coming Sunday's services.  I am asking anyone over 65 to stay home and we will attempt to get a message to you either through the website, Facebook or with a cd of the Sunday message to be played at home.

After listening to the Governor's address last night, I feel we can still meet.  Listed under the essential business is; education institutions  (External link opens in new tab or windowhttps://abc30.com/society/fresno-issues-shelter-in-place-order-starting-thursday/6024865/ )

as long as the assembly is no greater than 10 and we hold to a strict 6ft to 10ft social distancing policy. We are asking that those over 65 or have health issues to stay home.  For others, please visit Sierra Hills Baptist Church Facebook page and click on events. You will see 4 different events for Sunday,

Also, I will be attempting to do a Facebook Live service at the 9:00 Sunday service.

  1. Finally, I am excited to announce something new to our ministry that has been needed for quite a long time.  We now have an online giving platform to allow each of us to give securely and conveniently from your own computer, laptop, or smartphone. You can do a one time gift or set up for a recurring giving format.  You can also use your credit or debit card or link it directly to your bank (Linking to the Bank is the one I recommend as it is the most affordable way to give.)

To give you can go to the web site and click on the give tab.  Once there you will see a green “give” button. Click on it and follow the prompts.  If you have any questions please call me.

Let me encourage all to be faithful to our giving.  I know we all are concerned about the situation with the Coronavirus, but we still have the financial commitment to Pastor Bob with his retirement, over 35 missionaries that need our support, the various bills and commitments of the church, and also your Pastor and his family.  I want each to follow the biblical principle of 1 Corinthians 16:2.

“Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.”

Please note that the service for Wednesday, 3-18-20 is canceled in order to keep to the "no more that 10", requested by the CDC. I am posting the devotional for the evening service.  Please pray for Sunday as we look into all our options for holding services.

Hello, All Members and Friends of Sierra Hills Baptist Church, Tuesday 3-17-2020

What a difference a week makes.  Last week I prayed earnestly for God's wisdom on how to conduct our services for Sunday. I did modify the services by adding an extra service time so that there was adequate space for the people.  With a church of around 70 people, by adding the extra service we were able to spread out and keep the social distancing recommendations that we're advised.

This week is a new week and I am praying about our upcoming services.  I will prayerfully lead the flock of God and steward them as the Holy Spirit and the Word of God directs me.

At this time, I am canceling the Wednesday evening service for this week.  Instead of a service, I will provide a message posted on our website.

Once on the main page, click on "media".  The messages are by name and date.

As we get closer to Sunday we will evaluate what our service options are.

In the end, may we all be about being a witness to a world that IS concerned about mortality.

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
